RCAF Fighter Pilot Clip Board - Cockpit Use - Pilot named
I was forunate to purchase some which came from a decease RCAF veteran in Edmonton. His name was P/O Gildner and his career spanned WW2 and into the postwar period (one of his tunics is dated 1951). Unfortunately I do not have any further details on his career.
This is his clipboard which straps to the pilots thigh and hold maps, etc while in flight. This clip board is marked NOORDUYN AVIATION LTD. The Noordyn Company was a Canadian manufacture that started in 1934 and was bought out immediatley following WW2 by the Canada Car and Foundry Co. During WW2, Noorduyn produced Harvard trainers, Noresmen and other aircraft.
Interestingly, Gildner continued to use this clipboard in the postwar period as evidenced by the original data sheet for the T33 which is on the board. The back of the board has his name and rank scratched into it. It appears that he attained the rank of Squadron Leader at some time.
Very neat piece for the RCAF collector!
