WW1 Trio - 12987 Pte A. K. Green. 5 Canadian Infantry (& Svc File)
A trio named to an original member of the 5th Battalion (Western Cavarly) from Saskatchewan. The 5th participated in the 2nd Battle of Ypres where poison gas was first introduced.
Note that the star and Victory Medals are properly named but the silver War Medal has had the name completely erased.
The Star has an original silk ribbon whereas the Victory and WM has modern replacement ribbons.
Included with this group is a copy of Green's 19 page service file from the National Archives. Green enlisted in Moose Jaw, SK on 11 Aug 1914 (listing his occupation as a chauffeure and blacksmith. Previous Imperial service - 3 years with Northamptonshire Yeomanry). He arrived in France on 15 Feb 1915. During his service he was hopitalized for Influenza, pheumonia and VD (all different occassions). He was appointed Shoeing Smith and granted working pay at 50 cents per diem. Green also earned a good conduct stripe and was given permission to marry. At the end of hositlities he was demobed in 1919. His file offers up many other interesting bits for the researcher.
