US Cross Belt Plate (Civil War or Indian War) with embedded Minie Ball

What a story this could tell and I assume it was a cherished souvineer of some lucky soldier. A US cross belt plate which has been struck with a Minnie ball. It has pierced the plate and penetrate the lead filled reverse and knocked away one of the steel retaining hooks. Lots of white oxidation to the lead bullet. This turned up along the Alberta/Montana border a number of years ago and comes from a good collection. I've tried to convince myself that it is made up but I just can't see it. Please see the photos and you will notice the age to the item. Very very unique and scarce.
