1942 Canadian Mk II Helmet - Assistant Instructor badge with shrapnel damage!!

A very interesting Canadian Mk II which was produced by CLC in 1942. This one has an Assistant Instuctor badge painted on the side overtop of a black rectangle. Armoured maybe?

The front of the helmet is a puncture from a shrapnel strike. I'd say the owner was very lucky judging from where it struck. My thoughts are that this helmet was worn in England while training and then went to NW Europe with a net over top of it to conceal the insignia. General wear to the paint and insignia finish. Good liner and chinstrap.
