1942 British Mk I Airborne Helmet with Fibre Rim - Australian chinstrap conversion

If you go on the forums you will find a lot of information concerning these conversions. It is an original Mk I British Airborne Helmet with Fibre Rim which has had the leather chinstrap removed and replaced with a WW2 Canvas chinstrap. This seems to be purely an Australian undertaking and is likely due to tropical heat as the leather wouldn't stand up.

I sourced this helmet out of Australia in fact and it has not been messed with. The headband is marked BMB 1942 size 67/8. The rubber and felt liner shows some deterioration which is likely due to heat. The felt top pad in the crown is present.

The finish is the original textured olive green which shows quite a bit of wear with a dent in one spot. There is also the numerals 88/5 overpainted in red.

A very scarce helmet in any regard.
